2. Q&A (Extract)
Q. The Unification Ministry issued a statement condemning the
killing of a South Korean civilian on September 24, and Chairman Kim
Jong Un offered an apology the next day. What is the Ministry’s
position on the on-going situation?
A. The Ministry of Unification holds a stern understanding of the
current situation, and is carefully considering various circumstances
while closely watching for any additional response from the North.
Q. Some say that inter-Korean relations may improve as Chairman Kim
has offered an apology. What is the Ministry’s view on this?
A. It is in the same context as the previous answer. While keeping
in mind the difficult times the family of the deceased is going
through, the Ministry hopes the issue be resolved promptly. We will
sternly and carefully review any new developments.
Q. It has been revealed that President Moon and Chairman Kim
exchanged personal letters ahead of the recent issue, but the
Unification Ministry claimed that all inter-Korean communication
channels remain cut off. Was the Ministry aware of the exchange of letters?
A. There is nothing to comment on with regards to the exchange of
letters between the leaders of the two Koreas. However, I would like
to add that related information is closely shared among foreign
affairs and security agencies.
