international cooperation on North Korean human rights (September 1)
On September 1, Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho met with Ambassador
Lee Shin-hwa for international cooperation on North Korean human rights
Minister Kim expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Lee for her
active work in improving the human rights of North Korean residents in
the international society.
The minister also mentioned that the Ministry of Unification will
actively support strengthening multifaceted cooperation, including
NGOs, academia, and the international community.
In response, Ambassador Lee said there is a need to bolster organic
and systemic cooperation among the branches of the government,
including the Ministry of Unification. She also shared her opinion on
the future development direction of the North Korean Human Rights Report.
In particular, as South Korea will be serving as a non-permanent
member of the UNSC starting next year, she expressed her commitment to
taking the initiative in expanding discussions on North Korean human
rights in the international community.
