“We will make efforts to improve the human rights situation in North Korea with visions and hopes for the future”

“2023 North Korean Human Rights Film Rewatch: Shining the Truth” opens (September 13)

On September 13, the Ministry of Unification held the opening ceremony for “2023 North Korean Human Rights Film Rewatch: Shining the Truth” at Art House Momo.

The film festival is being held to expand the public’s interest and increase their empathy toward North Korean human rights.

The opening ceremony of the festival was attended by Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho, National Assembly member Ji Seongho, President of Ewha Womans University Kim Eun Mee, and others.

During the opening speech, Minister Kim stressed that “it is very important that those of us living in the free world keep paying attention to the poor human rights situation in North Korea.”

The opening film was “True North”, an animation about a boy named Yohan who is held captive in a North Korean political prison camp and finds hope as he regains his humanity, which was followed by a conversation with the film’s director, Eiji Han Shimizu.

The film festival, which runs until the 15th at the Art House Momo, will consecutively feature five films (Aria, The Gift of Love, North Korea VJ, Crocodiles in Mekong River, and True North) depicting the realities of the human rights situation in North Korea, and you can watch them for free by booking in advance.
