On April 14-18, the North Korean media
reported that Kim Jong Un met with Song Tao, the head of the Communist
Party of China’s International Liaison Department (April 14); hosted a
banquet for a Chinese art troupe (April 14); visited the Kumsusan
Palace of the Sun on the occasion of the birthday of late President
Kim Il Sung (April 15); enjoyed a ballet performance entitled “Red
Women’s Company” by the Chinese art troupe with his wife, Ri Sol Ju
(April 16); talked with Song Tao (April 17); and arranged a dinner for
the Chinese art troupe (April 17).
On April 15, the North Korean media reported that First Lady Ri Sol
Ju watched the first concert by the Chinese art troupe.
On April 14, the North Korean media reported that a meeting for
celebrating the 106th birth anniversary of late President Kim Il Sung
took place.
On April 17, the North Korean media reported that a meeting took
place at the Central Hall of Workers to mark the 40th anniversary of
the promulgation of “The Socialist Labor Law of the Democratic
People’s Republic of Korea.”
On April 19, the North Korean media reported that the Political
Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK)
decided to hold the Third Plenary Meeting of the Seventh Central
Committee of the WPK.
On April 19, the North Korean media reported that a meeting for
marking the 70th anniversary of the Joint Conference of
Representatives of Political Parties and Social Organizations in South
and North Korea took place.
On April 20, the North Korean media reported the excavation of
Kwangbok Temple, a site dating to the Goryeo Kingdom (918-1392).
【Inter-Korean Affairs】
On April 17, the North Korean media
condemned the South’s re-investigation into the sinking of the Cheonan.
On April 18, the North Korean media asserted that the Inter-Korean
summit is the result of the leadership of Chairman Kim Jong Un.
On April 20, the North Korean media denounced the South Korean
conservative parties’ remarks regarding the Inter-Korean and North
Korea-US summit meetings.
【Foreign Affairs】
On April 17, the North Korean media
reported that Kim Jong Un expressed his deepest sympathy and
solidarity with the cause of justice for the Syrian government and
people in a message of congratulations sent to Syrian President Bashar
al-Assad on the 72nd anniversary of Syrian independence.
On April 18, the North Korean media blasted Japan’s scheme to become
a military power.
On April 20, the North Korean media reported that a meeting of the
Secretariat of the Women’s International Democratic Federation and a
meeting of its Directive Committee were opened.
