Date: Monday,
April 3, 2023
Time: 10:30-10:33 A.M.
1. Minister’s Schedule
On May 9, Unification Minister Kwon Youngse will attend a plenary
session of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs & Unification
Committee at 2 P.M.
On May 10, Minister Kwon will attend the ‘Global NK Seoul
Conference’ organized by the East Asia Institute and deliver
congratulatory remarks.
2. Q&A
Q) Could you comment on today’s report that a North Korean defector
group distributed leaflets toward the North on May 5?
A) Regarding the dissemination of leaflets, there has been no change
in the Government’s current position that sending leaflets should be
refrained given the sensitive inter-Korean relations and the safety of
residents near the border area.
Q) Just a moment ago, a South Korean prisoner of war won
compensation against North Korea. What is the Ministry’s take on this?
A) As I have not seen the final results of that judgment yet, I will
check and let you know.
Q) Except for a couple of days, the weather in early May has not
been bad so far. Could you confirm whether North Korea has notified
the IMO or ICAO regarding the launch of its military reconnaissance
satellite, and when was the last time the North has done so?
A) Let me check whether North Korea has notified any international
organizations regarding the satellite launch.
Q) During yesterday's summit between South Korea and Japan, Prime
Minister Kishida mentioned that President Yoon expressed strong
support for the Japanese abduction issue, and is this comment related
to a consultative group which will be launched by the Unification
Ministry to address abduction issues? Also could you explain the
current status of the formation of this group?
A) First of all, since the summit is currently underway, it is
difficult to confirm the related matters to the summit with the
current direction of the Ministry. Regarding the status of the
consultative group, we will let you know when the progress is materialized.
