1. Minister’s Schedule
Minister Kim Yung Ho will attend the cabinet meeting on June 10 at
10 A.M.
On June 13, at 1:30 P.M., Minister Kim will deliver congratulatory
video remarks at an academic conference on humanitarian approaches for
North Korea in disaster scenarios.
2. Unification Ministry’s stance regarding the dissemination of
leaflets to the North
The Unification Ministry expresses regret over the Abductees’ Family
Union’s decision to disseminate leaflets toward the North on June 2.
Despite the Ministry’s request for restraint, the union has conducted
a third leaflet launch toward the North, following earlier cases on
April 27 and May 8.
The dissemination of leaflets toward the North risks escalating
tensions on the Korean Peninsula and jeopardizing the lives and safety
of border area residents. The Ministry sternly calls for the
suspension of such actions.
The Unification Ministry will maintain close cooperation with
relevant authorities and organizations to ensure full compliance with
laws regulating leaflet distribution, including the Framework Act on
the Management of Disasters and Safety and the Aviation Safety Act.
The Ministry will also actively engage in legislative discussions at
the National Assembly, including those concerning revisions to laws
such as the Development of Inter-Korean Relations Act.
3. Q&A
Q. When was the decision made to issue this statement? Was it
prompted by the recent scattering of leaflets, or had the Ministry
already intended to call for a halt to such acts?
A. There is no further comment to provide regarding the timing of
our decision.
