On May 10, Unification Minister Kwon Youngse delivered congratulatory
remarks at the Global NK International Conference sponsored by the
Ministry of Unification and organized by the East Asia Institute (EAI).
The conference was attended by security experts at the Belfer Center
at Harvard Kennedy School, Peking University, and the Grandview Institution.
During his congratulatory remarks, Minister Kwon said, “A unified
response from the international community is required more than ever
to bring uncommunicative North Korea to the dialogue table. China’s
role, in particular, is urgently needed as the North heavily relies on China.”
Moreover, “While competition and conflict between the U.S. and China
intensify, the Korean Peninsula issues will spark up close cooperation
between the two nations,” he added.
Minister Kwon stated, “In this sense, the Korean government will
exert efforts to bring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region
while driving cooperation between the U.S. and China.”
