On July 14, Minister Kwon Youngse met with WFP Executive Director
David Beasley to reaffirm the need for humanitarian assistance in
North Korea.
Minister Kwon expressed his gratitude for WFP’s efforts to
achieve “Zero Hunger” amid the global food crisis and asked for
continued interest and support in the North Korea issue.
Executive Director Beasley was particularly concerned that North
Korea’s food situation would deteriorate in the aftermath of the
global fertilizer crisis.
Both sides agreed to continue to
closely monitor the situation in North Korea and to cooperate in
providing necessary assistance to the North Korean people in a timely manner.
