Strengthening international cooperation to promote North Korean
human rights as a universal value
Vice Minister Kim Soo Kyung delivers congratulatory remarks at the
Roundtable on North Korean Human Rights (March 12)
On March 12, Vice Minister of Unification Kim Soo Kyung delivered
congratulatory remarks at the Roundtable on North Korean Human Rights,
hosted by the Embassy of Canada, to share the outcomes of support for
the North Korean Human Rights Fund and to exchange views on North
Korean human rights issues.
Vice Minister Kim stated that improving North Korean human rights is
a matter of realizing the universal values of “freedom and human
rights,” which must be pursued consistently, irrespective of political interests.
She explained that the Ministry of Unification is expanding support
for North Korean human rights organizations and is steadily broadening
the domestic and international ecosystem for North Korean human rights
through increased public awareness and strengthened international cooperation.
Furthermore, Vice Minister Kim expressed hope that this event would
serve as a meaningful opportunity to solidify cooperation between
South Korea and Canada on North Korean human rights while also
promoting multilateral and international discussions on the issue. She
reaffirmed the government’s commitment to deepening cooperation with
the international community and actively communicating with embassies
in South Korea.
