A warm message of gratitude to the teachers who have become a
guiding light for North Korean defector youth
Minister Kim holds a meeting with principals of educational
institutions for North Korean defector youth in commemoration of
Teacher’s Day (May 13)
On May 13, Minister of Unification Kim Yung Ho held a meeting with
principals of educational institutions for North Korean defector youth
in commemoration of Teacher’s Day.
The meeting was organized to express gratitude and respect to the
principals who have long dedicated themselves to supporting the stable
growth of North Korean defector youth and to listen to a wide range of
opinions from educators on the ground with the aim of reflecting them
in relevant policy.
The principals of 11 specialized middle and high schools,
alternative schools, and alternative educational institutions* spoke
of the difficulties faced by North Korean defector students in
adapting to new learning environments, psychological and emotional
instability, and career education. They emphasized the need for
seamless and well-coordinated policy measures to address the diverse
challenges these students face.

School, Drim School, Jangdaehyun Middle and High School, The Great
Vision School, Daum School, Banseok School, Haesol School, Wooridul
School, and South-North Love School.
Minister Kim expressed his deep appreciation for the dedication of
the teachers who have served as a beacon of light for North Korean
defector youth by presenting carnations and Dutch coffee produced by
Jinsol, a social enterprise founded by a North Korean defector.
The Minister said, “The government will spare no effort in providing
more attentive support to honor and repay the dedication of the teachers.”
