The Light of Liberation, Lighting the Path to Unification
Unification Ministry holds the opening ceremony of the 13th
Unification Education Week (May 19)
On May 19, the Ministry of Unification held the opening ceremony for
the 13th Unification Education Week on the lawn of the National
Institute for Unification Education.
During Unification Education Week (May 19—25), the National
Institute for Unification Education was fully opened to the public for
the first time. It featured a variety of unification education events
designed to be enjoyed by all, providing local residents and other
participants with meaningful opportunities to reflect on the
significance of unification.
*Unification Education Week: Established in 2013, the fourth week of
May is designated annually to strengthen the public’s commitment to unification.
The opening ceremony included a commemorative address by Minister of
Unification Kim Yung Ho, presentations of ministerial commendations,
and celebratory performances. It also featured the Children’s
Unification Golden Bell Quiz and hands-on educational games for both
children and local residents.
Interactive booths allowed visitors to converse with the AI robot
“Barami,” enjoy commemorative treats such as “Unification Macarons”
and “Unification Bread” created in honor of the 80th anniversary of
Korea’s liberation, and sample freshly prepared North Korean gourmet
dishes cooked on-site by six North Korean defector chefs.
Minister Kim stated that this year’s slogan, “The Light of
Liberation, Lighting the Path to Unification,” reflects the strong
determination of the Korean people to once again unite their strength
to illuminate the road to unification—just as the darkness of history
was cast out 80 years ago by the light of liberation.
The Minister expressed hope that this Unification Education Week
would inspire the next generation and the general public to reflect
more deeply on the meaning of liberation and unification and to take a
greater interest in unification education.
