On August 24, Unification Minister Kwon Youngse met with Chinese
Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Xing Haiming, and exchanged views
on inter-Korean relations and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the
Republic of Korea and China and proposed that the two countries,
longtime good neighbors, build a more mature bilateral relationship.
Minister Kwon promised that the Yoon administration would closely
communicate and work with the Chinese government to address North
Korea’s denuclearization and to advance inter-Korean relations and the
government’s North Korea policy further.
Ambassador Xing mentioned that China is making great efforts to
ensure denuclearization, peace, and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
He also added that August 24 is very special day that marks the 30th
anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two
countries, highlighting the works of Minister Kwon to improve
inter-Korean and Korea-China relations while he served as the first
South Korean Ambassador to China during the former Park Geun-hye administration.
Minister Kwon emphasized the constructive role of the Chinese
government in persuading North Korea to respond positively to the
Government’s “Audacious Initiative.”
The two sides shared the view that the situation on the Korean
Peninsula should not worsen and agreed to strengthen their cooperation
further in the future.
