On November 21, the Unification Ministry held the DMZ Global Forum 2022 where experts at home and abroad participated to discuss inter-Korean Green Détente initiatives and tasks from various perspectives.

In his opening remarks, Unification Minister Kwon Youngse mentioned that past governments have continuously proposed dialogue and made policy efforts to use the DMZ peacefully, and they have achieved a number of meaningful agreements between South and North Korean authorities. In addition, the Government is continuing past administrations’ work to present a Green Détente policy that has been developed to fit the reality of inter-Korean relations and making every effort to transform the DMZ into the Green Peace Zone.

He added, “We will secure the lives of the residents near the border region and address the reality in front of us peacefully by transforming the DMZ into the Green Peace Zone, while continuing to build trust based on inter-Korean cooperation on Green Détente initiatives and the border region.”
