On February 13, Minister Kwon attended the DMZ Forum, which was held
to mark the 70th anniversary of the armistice, under the theme of “the
establishment of Gangwon-do and the development strategy for the
border district,” and delivered congratulatory remarks.
During his address at the Forum, Minister Kwon said, “the border
district is virtually the last untapped region in our land, with the
most potential to drive the unification era.”
Moreover, he said that “this year, the Ministry of Unification will
unwaveringly work towards the goals of ‘establishing inter-Korean
relations based on democratic order’ and ‘preparing for a unified
future’ through various policies to put an end to the current
confrontational phase and advance peace on the peninsula.” Minister
Kwon highlighted that he hopes “North Korea will soon end its reckless
provocations and walk the path of reciprocity and mutual prosperity
through dialogue and cooperation, so that a wind of change blows in
Gangwon-do and the border district.
