Unification Ministry’s Stance on
Proposal to Hold Inter-Korean Talks

August 1, 2017

□ On July 17, the R.O.K. Government proposed to the North an inter-Korean Red Cross talk and inter-Korean military dialogue to discuss the reunion of separated families and to stop hostile acts along the Military Demarcation Line(MDL), but the North remains irresponsive.

□ We believe it is necessary to resume inter-Korean cooperation to solve humanitarian issues and ease military tensions with respect to the July 4 South-North Joint Communique, the Inter-Korean Basic Agreement, the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration and the October 4 Declaration.

□ The R.O.K. Government urges the North to respond to our proposal, and will continue multilateral efforts to ease military tensions and solve urgent humanitarian issues including the reunion of separated families.
