□ The Ministry of Unification announced that the colleges for the Omnibus Special Lectures and Unification & North Korea Courses Project have been selected for the first semester of 2018.

Out of 30 universities that applied for state funding, eight were selected to receive support for the Omnibus Special Lectures, and 19 for the Unification & North Korea Courses Project.

□ Many universities in non-metropolitan areas and new universities have been selected for this year’s project in order to promote education on unification and to provide more opportunities for students to participate in such education projects.

o Specifically 15 universities from non-metropolitan areas, 5 new universities, and 3 teachers’ colleges have been selected.

o During the first semester of 2018, special lectures will cover an array of topics including culture, arts, and multiculturalism, in addition to politics and economics, which have been the main course topics for unification education.

□ The Ministry of Unification conducted education on unification for 9,000 students from 32 different universities and colleges last year through the Omnibus Special Lectures and Unification & North Korea Courses Project.

o Since the project was first launched in the second semester of 2016, more than 14,000 students from 37 universities had the opportunity to learn more about Korean reunification in depth.

□ In an effort to reflect the opinions of the universities and to improve the efficiency of the project, officials from the Ministry of Unification will visit each university to monitor the project progress and provide consultation on the Omnibus Special Lectures and Unification & North Korea Courses Project.

o Meanwhile, the universities to receive support during the second semester of 2018 will be selected in April and May.
