Government’s response regarding Mount Geumgang tours

□ The North’s ‘Kumgangsan International Tourist Bureau’ sent a
document to the Ministry of Unification and Hyundai Group respectively
today(10.25) morning.
□ The North stated the following matters in the document.
o The North plans to build a new international cultural tourist
area at the Mount Geumgang tourism zone.
o It wants the ROK Government and Hyundai Group to visit the Mt.
Geumgang tourism zone at an agreed date and remove the facilities it constructed.
o The North noted that practical matters can be agreed in the form
of document exchange.
□ In this regard, the ROKG will consider and undertake necessary
actions as follows.
o First, the Government will protect the property rights of our people.
o Second, the Government will fully review the conditions and
environment while considering the historical meaning of the Mt.
Geumgang tourism project.
- The conditions mentioned above refers to the general conditions
and status including international circumstances and inter-Korean
consultations and the creation of national consensus on the matter.
These conditions will be considered comprehensively.
o Lastly, the ROKG will come up with a creative solution with
regards to Mt. Geumgang tourism after thoroughly reviewing the changed environment.
