  • The Cheorwon section of the DMZ Peace Trails opens to the public.
June 4.
  • A spokesperson for the DPRK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, states,
    - “The DPRK remains unchanged in its stand and determination to cherish and implement in good faith the June 12 DPRK-U.S. Joint Statement personally signed by the supreme leaders of the DPRK and the U.S. at the first-ever DPRK-U.S. summit.”
    - “The US would be well-advised to change its current method of calculation and respond to our request as soon as possible.”
June 5.
  • The Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation Promotion Council holds its 305th meeting.
    - Resolving the proposal, Support of the Inter-Korean Cooperation Fund for the Nutritional Support Program and Maternal Child Healthcare Projects by the WFP and UNICEF.
June 7.
  • The ROK government appoints Vice Unification Minister Suh Ho as director of the inter-Korean joint liaison office.
June 10.
  • North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sends a letter to US President Trump.
    - President Trump said, “I just received a beautiful letter from Kim Jong Un (June 10), and I believe we continue to have a great relationship.”
    - (Regarding the holding of a third North Korea-US summit) “A third summit could happen. I would hold another meeting with Kim at some point” (to White House correspondents on June 11).
June 11.
  • The Corporate Association of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex speaks before the US Congress.
June 12.
  • President Moon Jae-in gives a keynote speech, titled “Peace for the People,” at the Oslo Forum held at the University of Oslo, Norway.
    - “The two Koreas not only share a border but constitute a ‘community of life’ that must live together.”
    - “East and West Germany together responded swiftly to fires, floods, landslides, infectious diseases, insect damage, and water contamination in border areas through a border committee. I hope this precedent can also be applied to the Korean Peninsula to foster concrete hope for peace among our people.”
June 11.
  • The committee in charge of the funeral of former First Lady Lee Hee-ho sends an obituary notice in the name of its chairman to North Korea.
June 12.
  • Kim Yo Jong, first vice director of the Workers’ Party of Korea, delivers Chairman Kim Jong Un’s condolence message and flowers to the bereaved family of Lee Hee-ho.
June 14.
  • President Moon Jae-in gives a speech titled “Trust for Denuclearization and Peace on the Korean Peninsula” at the Swedish parliament, called the Riksdag.
    - “If North Korea takes the path of dialogue, no one would threaten the political system or security of North Korea. North Korea must understand that every problem will be resolved by dialogue and trust its dialogue partners.”
June 18.
  • The ROK government sends two North Koreans who wanted to return to the North among the four crewmen found at the port of Samcheok, Gangwon Province.
June 19.
  • The ROK Ministry of Unification announces a plan for food aid to North Korea.
June 20-21.
  • Chinese President Xi Jinping visits North Korea and holds a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on June 20.
June 23.
  • North Korea releases President Trump’s letter addressed to Chairman Kim Jong Un (reported by Rodong Sinmun and KCNA).
June 26.
  • A spokesperson for the DPRK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, states, “Even though the supreme leaders devote their all for establishing new DPRK-U.S. relations, it would be difficult to look forward to the improvement in the bilateral relations and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula as long as American politics are dominated by the policy-makers who have an inveterate antagonism towards the DPRK. We would not thirst for a lifting of sanctions.”
June 27.
  • Kwon Jong Gun, director-general of the Department of American Affairs at Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues a statement (reported by KCNA).
June 27.
  • The leaders of the ROK and China hold a summit in Osaka, Japan.
June 28.
  • The Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation Promotion Council holds its 306th meeting.
    - Resolving the proposal, Support of the Inter-Korean Cooperation Fund for Food Aid to North Korea.
June 29.
  • The leaders of the ROK and Russia hold a summit in Osaka, Japan.
June 29.
  • US President Trump, on his Twitter account, says, “While there (South Korea), if Chairman Kim of North Korea sees this, I would meet him at the Border/DMZ just to shake his hand and say ‘Hello!’”
June 29.
  • North Korea’s First Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui, in a statement, says, “I am of the view that if the DPRK-U.S. summit meetings take place on the division line, as is intended by President Trump, it would serve as another meaningful occasion in further deepening the personal relations between the two leaders and advancing the bilateral relations.”
June 30.
  • US President Trump, on his Twitter account, says, “Today I will visit with, and speak to, our Troops - and also go to the DMZ (long planned).”
June 30.
  • The leaders of the ROK and the US hold a summit in Seoul.
    - (US President Trump) “The trip (to the DMZ) was something I planned long ago. There is the possibility that I might meet Chairman Kim Jong Un there.”
    - (ROK President Moon) “Since the armistice declaration 66 years ago, the United States and North Korea will be meeting in Panmunjeom. For the first time in history, the leaders of the United States and North Korea will be standing face-to-face in Panmunjeom, the symbol of division, and shake hands for peace .Today, President … Trump and I have reaffirmed that we are absolutely on the same page when it comes to denuclearization and that we share common goals.”
June 30.
  • The leaders of the two Koreas and the US meet at the Freedom House in Panmunjeom.
    - (North Korean leader Kim Jong Un) “Mr. Trump is an incumbent US President that crossed the military demarcation line and stepped into our territory for the first time. I think that it is his courageous decision to cross the line opening – a better future by crossing the past of hostility and confrontation.”
    - (US President Trump) “The US will form a working-level team led by Secretary of State Pompeo within two or three weeks and embark on working-level negotiations….In the process of the negotiations, economic sanctions on North Korea may be lifted….I said to Chairman Kim that he can visit the White House any time he wants.”
