o Despite an inter-Korean agreement that calls for North Korea to give prior notice if it releases water from the dam, North Korea has only given such prior notice three times and continues to discharge water maliciously.
o This is an issue directly related to our people’s lives, safety and property. It is a humanitarian issue, unconnected to the political and military situation between the two Koreas. North Korea should take actions in accordance with the agreement.
o We call on North Korea to promptly normalize the inter-Korean liaison communication channel. Residents in border areas are advised to be cautious to avoid damage from unauthorized water release. Additionally, please remain particularly alert for any hazardous materials that may come from the North, and report them immediately to the appropriate authorities.
o Through close cooperation with relevant agencies, the South Korean government will maintain a 24-hour surveillance posture and ensure thorough preparations.
