On July 28 and August 1, the North Korean
media reported that Kim Jong Un visited the Fatherland Liberation War
Martyrs Cemetery to mark the 66th anniversary of the Armistice
Agreement, watched a concert given by the National Symphony Orchestra
marking the signing of the July 27 Armistice Agreement (July 28), and
gave field guidance at the test firing of a new large-caliber multiple
rocket launcher (August 1).
On July 29, the North Korean media reported that Pak Pong Ju,
vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea,
provided field guidance at the Sunchon Phosphate Fertilizer Factory,
the Sunchon Cement Complex, and the Sunchon Heat Insulating Materials
Factory in Suncheon, South Pyeongan Province.
On July 30, the North Korean media reported that Premier Kim Jae
Ryong gave field guidance at the construction site of the Sunchon
Phosphate Fertilizer Factory; the construction site of the Unsan
Prospecting Machine Factory; the Sunchon Heat Insulating Materials
Factory; the Pyongyang Dental Hygiene Products Factory; and the Anju
Area Coal-Mining Complex, and was briefed about the upgrading of the
Pyongyang Pharmaceutical Factory.
On July 30, the North Korean media emphasized the mission and duty
of women in building a powerful socialist country.
On July 31, the North Korean media underscored the importance of
making all the people talents in science and technology.
【Inter-Korean Affairs】
On July 27, the North Korean media
reported the firing of a new type of tactical guided missile (July 25)
and the comment the North made to the South on that occasion.
On July 28, the North Korean media denounced a joint infiltration
exercise and the ROK-US joint submarine exercise Silent Shark.
【Foreign Affairs】
On July 28, the North Korean media
blasted Japan’s economic retaliation, claiming that “The export
restrictions measure is, in essence, a sinister act of aggression to
annex South Korea economically and make it its new colony.”
On July 29, the North Korean media condemned the Katsura-Taft
agreement, claiming that “It was an utterly illicit and brigandish fabrication.”
On July 31, the North Korean media called for the abrogation of the
General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA), claiming
that “It is a war-inciting, peace-destroying agreement.”
On August 2, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson for
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, denounced the UN
Security Council (UNSC) for holding a closed-door meeting over the
DPRK’s recent weapons tests, and the UK, Germany, and France for
issuing a joint statement.
