On August 31 and September 6, the North
Korean media reported that Kim Jong Un provided field guidance at the
construction site of the hot spring tourist area in Yangdeok, South
Pyeongan Province and convened an emergency meeting of the Central
Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea to prepare for
Typhoon Lingling.
On August 31, the North Korean media emphasized the achievements of
weapons development and argued that a series of such achievements gave
the people a sense of pride as well as faith and optimism about a sure victory.
On September 2, the North Korean media reported that Premier Kim Jae
Ryong gave field guidance at several agricultural units in Hwanghae
Province including the single-stage water pumping station of the West
Sea Barrage-Sinchon-Kangnyong, Ongjin Waterway; the township
cooperative farm in Eunryul County; the Sogok Cooperative Farm; and
the Sunchon Cooperative Farm in Hwangju County, North Hwanghae Province.
On September 4, the North Korean media reported that the 14th
National Conference of Teachers was held at the Pyongyang Indoor
Stadium on September 3.
On September 6, the North Korean media exalted Kim Jong Un’s
leadership and love for the people.
【Inter-Korean Affairs】
On September 4, the North Korean
media condemned the South’s consideration of the deployment of U.S.
medium-range missiles and the redeployment of strategic nuclear weapons.
On September 5, the North Korean media denounced the South’s
conservative parties’ position regarding the decision to abrogate the
General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA) between
the Republic of Korea and Japan.
On September 6, the North Korean media blasted the South’s plan to
introduce additional F-35A stealth fighter jets.
【Foreign Affairs】
On August 31, the North Korean media
reported that Choe Son Hui, first vice foreign minister, in a
statement, criticized the remarks by US Secretary of State Pompeo.
On September 1, the North Korean media reported that a spokesperson
for the National oordination Committee to Prevent Money Laundering and
Terrorist Financing, in a statement, condemned the report by the UN
Sanctions Committee on North Korea regarding the hacking incident that
says that the country has generated about $2 billion from cybercrime
and funneled the money into its weapons of mass destruction (WMD) program.
On September 3, the North Korean media reported that Foreign
Minister Ri Yong Ho met with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
On September 4, the North Korean media reported that the Chinese
delegation led by Foreign Minister Wang Yi paid tribute at the Martyrs
Cemetery of the Chinese People’s Volunteers in Anju.
On September 5, the North Korean media condemned a US senator’s
comment of “an unstable dictator.”
