여러분 안녕하십니까,

Distinguished guests,

대한민국 정부와 국민을 대표하여 독일 통일 34주년을 진심으로 축하드립니다.

On behalf of the government and the people of Korea, I sincerely congratulate you on the 34th anniversary of German unification.

독일 통일을 기념하는 뜻깊은 자리에 함께하게 된 것을 대단히 기쁘게 생각합니다.

I am delighted to be part of this meaningful occasion celebrating German unification.

게오르그 슈미트 주한 독일대사님, 한·독 관계의 발전과 한반도 통일에 많은 관심을 가져주시고, 오늘 이 자리에 초청해 주셔서 감사합니다.

I would like to express my gratitude to Ambassador Georg Schmidt of Germany to the Republic of Korea for your interest in the development of Korea-Germany relations and the unification of the Korean Peninsula, and for inviting me here today.

아울러 이 자리에 참석해 주신 각국의 대사님들과 정부부처 귀빈 여러분들께도 반가운 인사의 말씀을 드립니다.

I also warmly greet the ambassadors and distinguished guests from various government ministries in attendance.

독일의 통일은 냉전 종식의 상징이자, 자유민주주의와 평화를 향한 인류의 열망이 결실을 맺는 역사적 사건이었습니다.

Germany's unification is not only a symbol of the end of the Cold War but also a historic event where humanity's aspiration for liberal democracy and peace brought change.

동유럽 국가들의 민주화와 경제적 전환의 촉매제가 되었으며, 유럽의 정치적 안정과 경제적 번영에 기여했습니다.

The Unification was a catalyst for the democratization and economic transformation of Eastern European countries and contributed to political stability and economic prosperity in Europe.

과거 분단시기 독일에서는 서독과의 체제 경쟁에서 패배한 동독 정권이 동독과 서독이 서로 ‘별개의 민족’임을 주장하며 동독의 독자적 생존을 인정받고자 한 바 있습니다.

During the era of division, having lost the systemic competition to West Germany, the East German regime claimed that East and West Germany were ‘separate nations,’ seeking to gain recognition for East Germany’s independent survival.

그러나 서독은 ‘하나의 독일민족’이라는 일관된 원칙을 갖고 독일을 통일로 이끌었습니다.

However, West Germany held firmly to the principle of ‘one German nation,’ and led the country to unification.

통일 과정에서 보여준 독일의 지혜는 북한의 ‘적대적 두 국가 관계’라는 반통일적, 반민족적 행태 속에서 대한민국에 많은 귀감이 되고 있습니다.

The wisdom shown by Germany during the process of unification serves as a great model for the Republic of Korea, particularly in the face of North Korea's ‘hostile two-state formula,’ which opposes unification and contradicts the notion of one Korean nation.

대한민국도 이러한 독일의 지혜를 본받아, 헌법가치와 인류 보편가치 실현이라는 원칙을 가지고 ‘통일 대한민국’을 향해 흔들림 없이 나아가겠습니다.

Korea will follow Germany’s example, adhering to the principles of constitutional values and universal human rights as we steadfastly pursue a ‘unified Republic of Korea.’

윤석열 대통령께서는 제79주년 광복절 기념식에서 <8.15 통일 독트린>을 발표하였습니다.

President Yoon Suk-yeol announced the ‘August 15 Unification Doctrine’ at the 79th Liberation Day ceremony.

<8.15 통일 독트린>은 대한민국 헌법과 인류보편 가치에 입각하여 ‘자유 평화 번영의 통일 대한민국’으로 나아가겠다는 분명한 지향점을 담은 가치 기반 통일 비전이자 전략입니다.

The ‘August 15 Unification Doctrine’ is a value-based vision and strategy for unification, grounded in Korea’s Constitution and universal human values.

The doctrine clearly outlines our direction toward a ‘Unified Korea based on Freedom, Peace and Prosperity.’

또한, 북한 정권이 남북관계를 차단하고 통일을 지우고 있는 상황에서 대한민국 주도로 자유 통일을 이뤄가겠다는 능동적 통일전략입니다.

It is also a proactive unification strategy in which Korea, will lead the way toward achieving unification, despite North Korea’s attempts to cut off inter-Korean relations and erase the prospect of unification.

자유 통일 비전의 실현을 위해 무엇보다 국제사회의 견고한 지지와 연대가 중요한 만큼, 이 자리를 통해 국제사회의 지지와 관심을 부탁드립니다.

Given the crucial importance of the international community’s strong support and solidarity in realizing the vision of unification, I take this opportunity to ask for your support and interest.

특히, “경험은 가장 좋은 스승(Erfahrung ist die beste Lehrmeisterin)”이라는 독일의 속담처럼 통일을 이룬 독일의 경험과 지혜는 ‘통일 대한민국’을 향한 여정에 등대가 되어줄 것이라 생각합니다.

As the German proverb says, “Experience is the best teacher (Erfahrung ist die beste Lehrmeisterin),” I believe Germany’s experience and wisdom in achieving unification will serve as a guiding light on our journey toward a ‘unified Korea.’

우리 정부는 독일을 비롯한 국제사회와 연대를 토대로 자유와 인권이 확장되고 세계의 평화와 번영에 기여하는 ‘자유 평화 번영의 통일 대한민국’을 일구어 나가겠습니다.

Our government will work to establish a ‘Unified Korea based on Freedom, Peace and Prosperity,’ where human rights are expanded to North Korea, and peace and prosperity are promoted globally, through solidarity with Germany and the international community.

다시 한 번 독일 통일 34주년을 축하드리며, 한국과 독일의 지속적인 우정과 협력을 기대합니다.

Once again, I congratulate you on the 34th anniversary of German unification and look forward to continued friendship and cooperation between Korea and Germany.
