1. Minister’s Schedule
Minister Ryoo Kihl-jae will sit down for a meeting with the Australian ambassador to Republic of Korea, William Paterson at his office at 3 P.M. Minister Ryoo will explain the current status of Inter-Korean relations and exchange opinions on the current situation of the Korean peninsula with the ambassador.
2. Regarding the inter-Korean governmental working-level talks on the GIC
As you may know, 6th round of the inter-Korean governmental working-level talks on the Gaeseong Industrial Complex(GIC) is to be held tomorrow. Minister Ryoo will thoroughly check on the preparation for the talks today.
There were five inter-Korean governmental working-level talks on the GIC. Although both South and North Korea recognized the idea of proceeding to an ‘advanced level of normalization’ of the GIC, specific measures have not been agreed yet.
On that account, the R.O.K. government is putting efforts to pull out agreements on specific measures for proceeding to an ‘advanced level of normalization’ of the GIC. Also, the R.O.K. government is aware of the fact that the inter-Korean talks itself is an important opportunity to establish the principle and the framework in forming new inter-Korean relations.
Therefore, the R.O.K. government believes that it is necessary for North Korea to firmly guarantee and prevent the unilateral closure of the GIC and prepare legal measures that suit international standard and form conditions for companies to invest freely in the GIC.
