Regular Briefing by Spokesperson Cho Joonghoon
Date: Monday, June 27, 2022
Time: 10:30-10:34 A.M.

1. Unification Minister to meet with foreign correspondents

Unification Minister Kwon Youngse has been visiting leaders of religious groups since last week and collecting opinions on the prospects of the new Government's North Korea policy.

Minister Kwon will pay a courtesy visit to the Confucianism Director Son Jin-Woo of Sung Kyun Kwan today and the supreme leader of Chondogyo Park Sang-Jong on Friday July 1.

In addition, the Minister will attend a press conference invited by the Seoul Foreign Correspondents Club(SFCC) at 3P.M. today to share insights of inter-Korean relations and North Korea policy of the new administration.

On June 28, Minister Kwon will deliver a speech at an event commemorating the history of North Korean abductions during the Korean War. This event has been hosted by the Korean War Abductees’ Family Union every year since 2010 to help the general public understand the pain of victims of North Korean abduction during the Korean War.

2. Other schedule

On June 20, Minister Kwon will sit down with members of the Korea NGO Council for Cooperation with North Korea and listen to various suggestions on inter-Korean humanitarian cooperation projects and discuss the promotion of inter-Korean relations.

3. Q&A

Q. Heavy rain alerts have been issued for most of the North Korean regions. In this regard, how does the Ministry perceive the possible influence of this to the North’s nuclear test?

A. As the weather situation in North Korea and its relation to a nuclear test are based on military judgement, the Ministry does not have additional information to offer.

Regarding the North’s preparations for nuclear test, the ROK and US intelligence authorities are in close cooperation in monitoring developments in North Korea’s major facilities and regions, thereby maintaining a firm readiness posture for all possibilities.
