1. Ministry to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the July 4
South-North Joint Communique
The Unification Ministry will hold a commemorative ceremony and an
academic conference at 2 P.M. today to commemorate the 50th
anniversary of the July 4 South-North Joint Communique under the theme
of “Walking the path of unification,” and Minister Kwon Youngse will
deliver congratulatory remarks.
The academic conference will look back at the achievements and
discuss future direction of inter-Korean dialogue. Presentations and
discussions will be led by former Unification Minister Kang In-deok
who was in charge of communicating with the North during the July 4
South-North Joint Communique.
In line with these events, the Unification Ministry will launch
a participatory platform for policy communication at 2 P.M. today, and
Vice Minister Kim Ki Woong will deliver congratulatory remarks. This
platform, composed of 50 young people in their 20s and 30s who were
recruited online, will engage in expanding communication and
cooperation with the Ministry and raise public participation in the
process of devising unification policies.
2. Minister’s schedule
Since June 21, Minister Kwon has been meeting with leaders of
religious groups to share prospects of the new Government’s
inter-Korean relations.
The Minister will visit President Na Sang-ho of the Won-Buddhism on
Tuesday July 5, Ven. Moo-won, the President of the Chontae Order of
Korean Buddhism on Wednesday July 6, and Kim Ryoung-ha, the head of
the Association of Korean Native Religions on Friday July 8.
On July 5, Minister Kwon will attend a welcome ceremony for
participants of the 2022 correspondents program composed of university
students that takes on the role of delivering news of the Unification
Ministry. Started in 2008, this program utilize social media to raise
awareness for unification policy among younger generations in an easy
and friendly manner.
3. Other schedule
On July 8, the Minister will sit down with members of the
Congressional Study Group on Korea, including U.S. Representative Ami
Bera in the morning, and visit the Settlement Support Center for North
Korean Refugees (Hanawon) to attend its 23rd anniversary ceremony and
deliver congratulatory remarks in the afternoon.
