1. Minister’s Schedule
Commemorating the month of Patriots and Veterans, Minister Kwon is
visiting the VHS Medical Center from 10:30 A.M. to express gratitude
and consolation for the sacrifice and dedication of people with
distinguished service to the state and provide words of encouragement
to staff members at the Center.
On June 27, Minister Kwon will pay a courtesy visit to Archbishop
Peter Chung Soon-Taick of the Catholic Church of Korea and exchange
views on the direction of North Korea policy.
On June 28, Minister Kwon will deliver remarks at an event,
organized by the Korean War Abductees’ Family Union, to commemorate
the history of North Korean abductions during the Korean War.
On June 29, Minister Kwon will attend and deliver remarks at a
symposium organized by the Unification Ministry and Yonhap News Agency
and an academic conference organized by the Korean Political Science Association.
2. Q&A
Q) In his interview yesterday, Minister Kwon mentioned the
possibility of filing a lawsuit for damages occurred in the Gaeseong
Industrial Complex. Could you explain what government property is
currently involved in the GIC and how far along the legal process is
in regarding the lawsuit?
A) On April 11, the Unification Minister’s statement strictly
condemned the unauthorized operation of the GIC facilities and the
violation of property rights of South Korean companies.
The
South-North Joint Liaison Office, the GIC General Support Center, and
other infrastructure facilities are located in the GIC, and the
Reunion Center for the Separated Families and a fire station are in
the Mount Geumgang tourism area. We are currently examining specific
legal measures in this regard.
