The Deputy Minister for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs delivers congratulatory remarks on behalf of Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho at the 2023 Chaillot Human Rights Forum (December 8)

On December 8, the 2023 Chaillot Human Rights Forum was held under the theme of “Mid- to Long-term Strategy for Improving Human Rights in North Korea.”

In his congratulatory remarks, which were delivered by the Deputy Minister for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs, Unification Minister pointed out that 75 years have passed since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, yet the human rights situation for North Koreans remains dire.

Minister Kim underscored the importance of the solidarity between the international community and civil society to widely publicize the realities of human rights in North Korea to the international community, enhance the awareness of human rights among North Korean residents by continuously inpouring outside information to the North, and bring about changes in North Korean authorities.

Furthermore, the minister expressed his intention to establish a “mid- to long-term plan for North Korean human rights” to systematically advance North Korean human rights policies with a long-term perspective and asked attendees for their interest and opinions.
