international community and civil society

delivers congratulatory remarks on behalf of Unification Minister Kim
Yung Ho at the 2023 Chaillot Human Rights Forum (December 8)
On December 8, the 2023 Chaillot Human Rights Forum was held under
the theme of “Mid- to Long-term Strategy for Improving Human Rights in
North Korea.”
In his congratulatory remarks, which were delivered by the Deputy
Minister for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs, Unification
Minister pointed out that 75 years have passed since the adoption of
the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, yet the human rights
situation for North Koreans remains dire.
Minister Kim underscored the importance of the solidarity between
the international community and civil society to widely publicize the
realities of human rights in North Korea to the international
community, enhance the awareness of human rights among North Korean
residents by continuously inpouring outside information to the North,
and bring about changes in North Korean authorities.
Furthermore, the minister expressed his intention to establish a
“mid- to long-term plan for North Korean human rights” to
systematically advance North Korean human rights policies with a
long-term perspective and asked attendees for their interest and opinions.
