On May 26, the Ministry of Unification held the 2023 Tonghanabom, a
unification cultural event, at Gwanghwamun Square Nori Madang (a
recreational ground) on the occasion of the 11th Unification Education Week.
The Tonghanabom event is a communication venue designed to raise
people’s interest in unification and subsequently think about a
unified future.
Unification Minister Kwon Youngse, the British Ambassador to Korea,
and representatives of unification-related organizations attended the
opening ceremony.
The event features a variety of programs for the public to enjoy
including performances, exhibitions, and experiences.
There will be twelve performances on stage, including a “Unification
Talk Show” with North Korean defectors, a “Unification Golden Bell,”
where 5th and 6th graders can test their unification knowledge, and
fusion performances by “FreezyBone.”
The Nori Madang features fun onsite events where participants can
win mementos, such as a Unification Mixed Reality (MR), one of fifteen
different unification experience programs where people can learn about
unification using their five senses, as well as a 3D Photo Zone.
Moreover, there are special experiences where people can learn about
the reality of North Korea through a North Korean market exhibition
and become an inquirer on human rights in North Korea, listening to
the stories of North Korean defectors and even writing reports.
Meanwhile, the award ceremony for the 50 Second Peace and
Unification Shorts Film Festival
was held at the movie theater,
Cinecube Gwanghwamun.
Minister Kwon, who attended the award ceremony, highlighted through
his words of encouragement, that the youth of today are the leaders
for a unified future, and urged the youth attending the event to build
on the momentum of the festival and envision dreams of unification
going forward.
