Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon (April 15)
On April 15, Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho had a luncheon meeting
with former Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon, a
senior leader of Korean society and an expert in international
affairs, including global peace and security and human rights, to
listen to his opinion on the direction of a new unification dialogue.
Minister Kim reiterated remarks made by President Yoon Suk Yeol on
the 105th March First Independence Movement Day that “Unification is a
challenging task that we cannot accomplish alone. The international
community must pool its strength in a responsible manner.”
“지난해
캠프 데이비드 선언에서 볼 수 있듯 대한민국은 국제질서의 형성자로 참여하고 있고, 세계에서 대한민국의 위상은 그 어느 때보다도
높아졌다”고 말했습니다.
Minister Kim added that “As declared in the Spirit
of Camp David, the Republic of Korea is participating in the
international order as a shaper, and its status is raised more than
ever on the global stage.”
Furthermore, the minister stated, “As a global pivotal state, the
Republic of Korea shall contribute to the freedom, peace, and
prosperity of the international community through unification, and
actively cooperate in solidarity with the international community in
the unification process.” He added that “amidst the rapidly changing
international circumstances, this meeting would serve as a valuable
opportunity to have an in-depth discussion on the direction of a new
unification dialogue.”
