On November 24, Unification Minister
Kim Yung Ho delivered a congratulatory message at the 2023 Global
Dialogue on Korean Peninsula Unification held by the Peaceful
Unification Advisory Council under the theme of “international
cooperation aiming to realize freedom, peace, and prosperity on
the Korean Peninsula.”
In his congratulatory speech,
Minister Kim strongly condemned North Korea’s recent “military spy
satellite” launch that poses a threat to peace and stability on
the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia. The minister also
explained the necessity of a partial suspension of the “September
19 Military Agreement” as a minimal defensive measure.
Furthermore, he stressed, “Cooperation with countries that
share the values of freedom and peace is crucial to halt
wrongdoings by North Korea and make the North come forward onto
the right path.”
Additionally, highlighting that improving
human rights in North Korea is a “practical preparation for
unification,” Minister Kim stated that the Korean government will
systematically cooperate more with the international community by
releasing the North Korean Human Rights Roadmap and the Status
Report on the North Korean Economy and Society.
