On December 1, the 2023 North Korean Defectors Job Fair was
successfully held, providing assistance with stable settlement for
North Korean defectors and offering the perfect recruits for companies.
The fair was attended by a total of 141 companies, government
agencies, and public institutions, and it drew over 1,000 North Korean defectors.
During the opening ceremony held in the morning, Unification
Minister Kim Yung Ho stated, “The Yoon administration has set the
issue of settlement support for North Korean defectors as one of the
priorities among its national tasks, specifically in resolving the
employment issue.”
Minister Kim also highlighted, “If North Korean defectors have the
opportunity to pursue the careers they desire, it will foster a sense
of self-realization and belonging. This will make them feel they have
become members, as well as contributors, to South Korean society.
Ultimately, their contributions will contribute to both the
development of our society and preparations for unification.”
Kim, a North Korean defector who visited the fair, said, “I have
always been interested in public institutions. I participated in the
job fair to understand the qualifications and job competencies
required by each institution and prepare accordingly.”
Lim, another North Korean defector, said, “By participating in this
job fair, I was able to receive employment information from the
National Health Insurance Service and resolve all the concerns and
frustrations I had been facing.”
