From May 23 to 29, it is the 10th Unification Week.
On May 23, commemoration was held at the National Institute for
Unification Education to mark the 10th Unification Education Week.
Minister Kwon said "The question of the new generation (about
unification) should be answered from a more future-oriented and
practical point of view," adding that unification education is
the most important factor as the starting point.
He added that unification education should aim for peaceful
unification based on the basic free and democratic order as stipulated
in the Constitution and establishing values for liberal democracy will
not only contribute to fulfilling these constitutional obligations but
will also serve as a solid foundation for a unified Korea in which the
dignity and freedom of all citizens are guaranteed.
Lastly, he emphasized the need to move away from the past education
that imposes justification on unification itself and paint a picture
of a unified Korea that future generations aspire.
