prisoners of war in North Korea (August 3)
On August 3, Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho met with heads of
private organizations and family members related to South Korean
abductees, detainees and prisoners of war in North Korea and delivered
words of condolences and encouragement.
Minister Kim said, “If an end-of-war declaration is made, the POWs
issues will be buried which is why the Yoon administration promises
that they will never pursue or promote an end-of-war declaration.”
He said, “Amid North Korea’s refusal to talk and its ongoing nuclear
development and provocations, we will continue to put pressure on
North Korea to resolve these issues in solidarity with the
international community based on the firm commitment of the Korean
government regarding the abductees, detainees and prisoners of war issues.
Moreover, the minister said that he plans to establish a ministerial
response team on abductees to seek creative solutions to the
abductees, detainees and POWs issues.
