The Ministry of Unification was launched on March 1, 1969, the 50th
anniversary of the March 1st Independence Movement Day, with the
historic mission of preparing for peaceful unification.
On March 2, the Unification Ministry held the 54th foundation
anniversary event at the Seoul Government Complex.
During his congratulatory remarks, Minister Kwon Youngse said, “in
line with the changing trends of world history, the Ministry will
overcome the current difficulties while unwaveringly preparing for a
unified future based on the universal values of humanity.”
Moreover, the minister said, “if North Korea truly cares about the
lives of North Koreans, it should immediately stop its nuclear threats
and provocations and respond to our ‘Audacious Initiative.’”
“We urge the North to affirmatively review and respond soon to the
dialogue we sincerely proposed in September last year to resolve the
separated families issue,” he added.
Established on pride, responsibility, and expertise, the Ministry of
Unification will cooperate with related ministries and build
solidarity with the international community to carry out unification
policies with the people at their level.
