Pursuing continuous communication and cooperation to address the
unification issue on the Korean Peninsula
Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho meets with Slovakia’s Foreign
Minister Juraj Blanár (May 13)
On May 13, Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho sat down with Slovakia’s
Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár to exchange views on the situation on
the Korean Peninsula and unification and North Korea policies.
Minister Kim said that the government will “steadfastly pursue
unification that is based on liberal democracy and the Constitution,”
while firmly responding to continued provocations by North Korea.
Moreover, the minister stressed that as the increasing military
cooperation between North Korea and Russia, following their summit in
September 2023, poses a threat to global peace and stability, the
international community must cooperate more closely.
Minister Blanár also shared his concerns about the North
Korea-Russia military cooperation and expressed his hopes that
Slovakia’s successful experience in regime transition would serve as a
valuable lesson for a future unification and integration process on
the Korean Peninsula.
Additionally, both sides agreed to continuously communicate and
cooperate to address the Korean Peninsula issues based on universal
values such as freedom and human rights.
