Unification Minister's Meeting with U
O Unification Minister and Chairman of the Standing Committee of National Security Council Chung Dong-Young met with U.N. General Assembly President Jean Ping on Nov. 24, 2004 for 45 minutes from 11 o'clock.
- Mr. Jean Ping said that during his visit to North Korea from Nov.16 through 20, he got a highly positive message from North Korea on the possibility of resumption of the stalled Six-Party Talks. Adding that the North asked him to convey its hope of coexistence with the U.S. he said that he will send the message to the U.S.
O Making it clear that the ROK government does not want sudden collapse or containment of the North Korean regime, Minister Chung reiterated that ROK, during its recent summit talks with the U.S. agreed with the U.S. on the principle of peaceful, diplomatic resolution of North Korean nuclear issue.
- Minister Chung ensured that the ROK government has real intention to seek co-prosperity with DPRK based on solid peace on the Korean Peninsula, and does have capability to do so.
- He also called for U.N General Assembly President Jean Ping to make further efforts in resolving the nuclear issue and establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula and the international community.
