O The government passed the bill on revision of Special Provision for the Process of Approval for Cooperative Partnership Project and Visit to Gaeseong Industrial Complex Zone (Notification No. 2004-7 of the Ministry of Unification, July 8, 2004) in the 139th round of the Consultative Meeting on Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation Promotion (held in a written form) on Dec. 24 (Fri), 2004
O Under the new provision, the period of approval process for individuals' visit to the Gaeseong Industrial Complex shortened from current 10 days to 5 days, and visitors requesting the one-time visit certification do not necessarily submit personal identification certificate. In addition, individuals who have received the approval for frequent visit to North Korea can submit a transit plan instead of submitting a report on visit every time when visiting the North
O Since the Ministry of Unification already implemented a measure on Nov. 23 to provide in the Office of South-North Transit public services such as re-issuance of visit certificate, modification of contents in a certificate and signing on a report, individuals need not visit the Unification Ministry for those matters.
O The revision was made to eliminate inconveniences and simplify the transit process as a way of promoting smooth business operations for enterprises entered into the Gaeseong Industrial Complex. The government, in consultation with related government organizations, will continuously take actions to improve institutions for simplification of transit process and examine difficulties that enterprises face in Gaeseong
