Inter-Korean railroads are being reconnected.

 



 

A ceremony for the reconnection of railways between the South and the North (for the Seoul-Shinuiju Line and the East Coast Line) took place on June 14, 2003.




 

Preparation for the actual opening of the railroads, including the connection of railroad signals and an electric system as well as institutional mechanisms for the operation of trains, is steadily proceeding.



 

Connection of inter-Korean railroads - Promote the test-run of the possible sections of railroads within this year
 

Gaesong Industrial Complex is being developed.
 




 

The ground-breaking ceremony for the first phase construction (area of 3.3 million ) of the Gaesong Industrial Complex was held on June 30, 2003.

The two Koreas will cooperate to develop an internationally competitive complex (total area : 66 million ).

Preparations are under way for architectural design, appropriate regulations for construction, and the establishment of temporary on-site offices and facilities.
 




 







 

Overland tours to Mt. Geumgang have resumed.
 


  

Overland tours to Mt. Geumgang resumed on September 1, 2003 after a six month halt.

A total of 602,721 tourists have visited Mt. Geumgang since November, 1988.
 



 

Four agreements on economic cooperation have come into effect.
 

 

On August 20, 2003 agreements on the following came into effect:

 

 - Prevention of double taxation of income 
 - Clearing settlement- Investment protection 
 - Resolution of commercial disputes
